This songfic is from Sailor Moon Pretty Cast. It's called Moonlight Destiny. The sonfic is about Hotohori and his thoughts after Miaka has brought back Tamahome from the Seiryuu side. Even if you've read a million of these fics, I hope you read at least to see my writing style. Enjoy! The Ruler of a Lonely Night ~Megumii~ Why, when I am with the wondrous you Does the time fly by us so easily Upon the lifeless sea, the nighttime descends, with the first star This is magic reaching us from the moon Even without a word, I know it's true The two of us must be thinking about the same thing The stars were thought to rule everything, even the emotions of those who gazed upon the holy lights. So it was no surprise to Hotohori that the night sky turned his longing from a dull ache into a fierce battering that jolted his ribcage. Moonlight destiny Forever, more than anyone, I want to be with you Below this spacious sky above, you who I met by chance Moonlight destiny Through all the joy and the pain, we will share it together In my heart that's how I feel, when I am with you Ever since the emperor was little, he had often dreamed of a faceless girl falling from the heavens, right into Suzaku's land. She would tell him that she wanted to be priestess of Suzaku, and her wish was to save Konan and fall in love. She would beguile Hotohori with her beauty and lust for life, making him smile and forget his iron-heavy duties. She would speak words of simple wisdom, and see him as a man and not as a ruler. Moonlight destiny Forever, more than anyone, I want to be with you Below this spacious sky above, you who I met by chance Moonlight destiny Through all the joy and the pain, we will share it together In my heart that's how I feel, when I am with you Hotohori sighed as he watched a star take flight over the sky, falling behind the silhouettes of distant mountains. He was like those mountains. Reaching for the sky, yet never catching the sparkling diamonds suspended there. The moon hung on an invisible silk thread in the darkness, covering the fields below with its soft glow. It seemed to reach out to the young emperor, as though its beams wanted to heal his sorrow. Ever since I met the wondrous you I can see everything so vividly On the dark sea the road of silver continues to the stars This is a message brought by the moon We don't need any kind of promises The two of us seem to be walking toward the same tomorrow Hotohori knew he had no real right to be sad. His dream had come true, just not as he imagined it. Indeed, Yuuki Miaka was a beautiful girl, who wished for the same peace for Konan that he did. She wanted to find her eternal companion as much as Hotohori wanted to find his. She spoke simple, VERY simple, words of wisdom, perhaps not even understanding the significance of them. She spoke them none-the less; another wish come true. But most of all Miaka made the ruler of Konan smile, loving the man who's very soul thirsted for her. Yet she didn't LOVE him, and that made Hotohori view the brightly lit sky with unhappiness. He felt as though he were missing something, something only Tamahome seemed to possess, but he couldn't figure out what. Gazing at the moon, Hotohori's mind began to work out his tangled feelings. He knew Miaka loved Tamahome, but why not him? Moonlight destiny However far, wherever it may be, I am gazing after it The brilliant, brightly shining light, the continuing of today's dream Moonlight destiny When I'm at a loss, or filled with distress, you will come to answer me In my heart I now believe in that, when I am with you Hotohori was well aware of his beauty, it was easy to see, after all. He had been trained by the best scholars Konan had to offer, and as emperor he could easily afford Miaka wealth, protection, and happiness. This was not to mention the events that seemed to mean that he and Miaka were meant to be. He was a Suzaku shichiseishi, he had saved Miaka's life, more times than Tamahome he was sure, and had shared moments with her that made his pulse race frantically. Miaka made Hotohori feel as though he could fly, soaring high above the rivers and hills, past the borders of his own world into a new one. Nobody, not even Tamahome, could possibly feel such a sensation when around Miaka. Inexplicably though, all of Hotohori's wishes to come true without any happy ending in sight for the emperor. The pain was terrible, something that wanted to consume the heartbroken ruler until he no longer existed. If he did not have such demanding duties, he would have gladly given himself up to the silent darkness, but he could not. He still had a country to rule, and he still had Miaka to protect. Moonlight destiny Forever, more than anyone, I want to be with you Below this spacious sky above, you who I met by chance Moonlight destiny Through all the joy and the pain, we will share it together In my heart that's how I feel, when I am with you Hotohori let his eyes graze the ocean of stars, and the bright circular island that moved with the tide of bright lights. He willed himself to be content that he had met the girl of his dreams. Miaka made him feel exactly the way he had wanted to feel. She made his heart race, his smile broaden, and his soul lighter. She had shouldered the responsibilities of being priestess to Suzaku, and was willing to save Konan. Soon people would hear the tale of a priestess who overcame the greatest of obstacles and rose to triumph, saving Konan and capturing the heart of a well-deserving man. It was what Hotohori had wanted. It was enough. It had to be. Rising from the cypress rail that stood outside his quarters, Hotohori stretched leisurely and gave one last look at the night sky, before turning to go into his room. No matter what, he knew that so much as Miaka was happy, he could go on. He would rule Konan and choose an empress that would stand by his side. Even if it wasn't the priestess of Suzaku, it didn't matter. As long as Miaka was happy, the moon and stars in Hotohori's world would continue to shine brightly. Questions? Comments?
